ALEX JOB RACING McKENNA PORSCHES SPAN ATLANTIC TO COMPETE AT HISTORIC DONINGTON PARK IN ENGLAND
Donington, England -- April 11, 2001 -- Venturing across the Atlantic Ocean to England hot on the heels of their Sebring one-two class finish, the Alex Job Racing, McKenna Porsche team is looking to increase their GT Class points lead in American Le Mans Ser ies (ALMS) at Donington Park on Saturday, April 14.
Even though the two European races are optional according to the ALMS rules, top teams find themselves needing to race on the "other side" of the Atlantic.
"By competing in the two European races, we put ourselves in a much better chance to win the championship" said team owner Alex Job. "Since under ALMS rules the two worst finishes are dropped in the final standings, we cannot afford to sit at home and watc h the V8 BMW and others finish well in the European races."
"The new V8 M3 BMW turned in the fastest race lap in Sebring. Since we probably will not outrun it here in England, we need to make sure the McKenna Porsche 911 GT3 RS' are fully prepared when we get the track, and do the job in the pits like we have done in the past" added Job. "Weather might also play a factor, as we expect cool and damp conditions here."
McKenna Porsche team drivers Sascha Maassen, Lucas Luhr, Randy Pobst and Christian Menzel are one through four respectively in the ALMS GT points standings after the first two races (Texas and Sebring).
Historic Donington Park, a 2.5 mile road course is located at Castle Donington in Derbyshire, England. NBC Television will be providing same day coverage of the race, starting at 4:00 PM EST, Saturday, April 14th (check your local listings for broadcast t imes in your area). Qualifying and the 2 hour, 45 minute race will broadcast live on the internet. Check www.americanlemans.com for more information.
Now in its 13th year of competition, Alex Job Racing (AJR) is one of the premier independent Porsche teams in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Based in a brand new 16,000 sq. ft. facility in Tavares, Florida, AJR entries have tallied two victories in the 12 Hours of Sebring, one win in the 24 Hours of Daytona, eight ALMS wins (prior to the 2001 season) and captured the 1999 ALMS GT Team Championship.
