This was my first time to China and every day here has definitely been an experience, the culture is so different than ours. We arrived in Hong Kong on Wednesday before the race and had the chance to visit the peninsula and see the impressive Hong Kong island skyline.
The track at Zhuhai was interesting, it wasn't the most spectacular track, but maybe I'm getting spoiled after the first three beautiful circuits! The track had many braking zones and every corner was 2nd gear except two fast 4th gear bends. Braking was key and after Sepang I knew I had some work in that area of my driving.
The team did a great job preparing the car for the new circuit, we made some really positive changes over the two sessions and were able to improve an under-steering issue. The gearing of the car was close but still not ideal. These are all things we try to sort out during the rookie sessions and I think the car improved with the changes we made. I placed 15th in both sessions and I really am a bit disappointed we didn't end up higher on the sheets. The field was very close and I have made headway on my braking technique, but the laptime just wasn't there. Despite the 15th position in both practices the result was positive because we improved the car and the team was happy with the feedback There were a few cars on new tires and some drivers had experience here but I was hoping to place in the top ten.
Every circuit is going to be new for me this year so I know I need to improve on being more aggressive given the short amount of track time, I'm definitely looking forward to improving in Taupo.
