A1 TEAM MALAYSIA SHARES VICTORY CELEBRATIONS WITH PROTON

A1 Team Malaysia shared its recent A1GP World Cup of Motorsport double victory with the employees of Proton, one of the sponsors of the team. Visiting the Proton facility in Shah Alam in Kuala Lumpur, Alex Yoong, driver for A1 Team Malaysia, and members of the crew proudly showed the staff the trophy that was won by the team in Brno, Czech Republic earlier this month.

The team celebrated two fantastic wins in the second round of the A1GP Series, with Alex Yoong passing the chequered flag first in the yellow-liveried Malaysian car in both the Sprint race and the main Feature race at the Czech circuit. The team worked hard to earn this success and it has put them third in the championship standings for this season.

Yoong was presented with a medal for his achievement in the Sprint event, and a large crystal trophy for his Feature race victory, and he took along his spoils to show to the Proton factory staff.

Yoong, his A1 Team Malaysia mechanics and team personnel were warmly greeted at the Proton plant, which promotes its A1 Team Malaysia association with giant billboards outside the main entrance. The team were given a guided tour of the facility, including the Proton production lines, and various other specialist departments, and during the visit they were congratulated by many of the staff.

Proton employees were invited to a welcome meeting and autograph session with Yoong and the team, with hundreds of staff being given signed cards and posters, and having their photograph taken with the A1 Team Malaysia personnel. The event concluded with a press conference and reception for the local media.

Yoong said of his visit to Proton, "We were given a marvellous reception by the Proton staff today and it was a privilege for us to be able to show them our appreciation of their support for the team. We were racing in Europe for these victories, but our hearts are in Malaysia, so it is very special for us to be able to celebrate our wins today. I hope that we'll be back with more trophies from future races."

Jack Cunningham, Chief Executive, A1 Team Malaysia, echoed Yoong's sentiments, saying, "I would like to thank Proton for their support of A1 Team Malaysia and the warm hospitality which we have enjoyed so much today. We are representing our country in this global motor racing championship and to bring success home, and share it with our partners, has been a real bonus for us. We hope that the national pride in our team will be heightened by our achievements, and that we continue to bring success back to Malaysia in the coming months."
