Goodwood Festival of Speed Beckons A1 Team Great Britain
London, England (June 15, 2007) -- A1 Team Great Britain is delighted to announce it will be on hand to represent the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport by participating in next weekend's 'Festival of Speed', set in the grounds of the magnificent Goodwood House, Chichester, West Sussex, Friday 22nd -- Sunday 24th June.
A highlight on the social calendar, Goodwood's Festival of Speed attracts the finest array of world-class motorsport talent and cars, all desperate to demonstrate their speed up the famed 1.16-mile hillclimb course -- the centerpiece of the weekend's attractions, Germany's Nick Heidfeld setting the current course record, 41.6 seconds, back in 1999 in a McLaren-Mercedes MP4-13 Formula One car.
A1 Team Great Britain's Robbie Kerr will be reunited with the 550bhp A1GP car he drove to a famous home victory at Brands Hatch in April for a crack at the hillclimb challenge, his first time back in the car since helping steer the team to third overall in the 2006-07 A1GP Nations Standings.
Kerr, who'll attend Goodwood off the back of his first ever start in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race this weekend, 16th-17th June -- where he qualified the Zytek 07S/2 on the LMP2 pole for Saturday's start, will be joined in representing the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport by Brazil's Team Principal and racing legend, Emerson Fittipaldi. The 1972 and 1974 Formula One World Champion and double Indy 500 winner will be attending the Festival of Speed where he'll head back down memory lane driving the Lotus 49B he made his Grand Prix debut in.
The British A1GP car will be situated in the F1 Paddock at Goodwood, with Robbie participating in autograph sessions there on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 12:30pm each day, Emerson Fittipaldi will be joining Robbie for Sunday's signing session. The expected 150,000 visitors will get the chance to see Kerr blast his way up the hill in the A1GP car twice a day at the following times:
Friday 22nd June -- 10:35am & 4:50pm
Saturday 23rd June -- 10:35am & 6:05pm
Sunday 24th June -- 10:35am & 4:45pm
"I'm looking forward to making my first appearance at Goodwood," Kerr stated. "As far as events go I think it's practically unrivalled in allowing the public to get up close and personal with some of the world's greatest racing machines. I can't wait to tackle the hillclimb in the A1GP car. I haven't driven it since Brands Hatch a couple of months ago so it'll be fun to let loose at Goodwood!"
