TESTING IN UK NEXT WEEK
Kevin Lacroix : two days with Team A1 Canada
Saint-Eustache, 14 July 2006. -- It is now official : Kevin Lacroix received an invitation to test with Team A1 Canada next Monday and Tuesday. He will fly to South Wales Sunday and spend two days in the A1GP Lola V8 Zytek at the Pembrey track. The 17-year old driver was selected by the Team along with Canadian James Hinchcliffe, 19, because both are considered two of Canada's most exciting open-wheel racing prospects. Pembrey is a 1.456 mile 8-turn facility where he will experience the 500 bhp+ single seater.
"This is an invitation I couldn't turn down even if it is between two Star Mazda rounds, declared Lacroix. A driver always wants to get his grips on such a car and use that kind of power, and I'm no different! To be chosen because of my racing curriculum is very flattering and I thank A1GP for this. I will enjoy myself a lot since they are just testing days and not a shoot-out awarding rounds in the A1 Winter calendar. At this time, my focus is on the Star Mazda championship in the #74 UniSelect car and the rounds at Miller and Portland. This test means a lot of traveling and jet lag but as long as I have two days to recover before Portland, I'll be all right."
Under John Surtees supervision
Formula One World champion in 1964 with a Ferrari, John Surtees acts as a consultant to Team A1 Canada : "This is not a shoot-out and there will be no pressure on the drivers to go out and set startling times. This is a getting to know you session. We have brought the drivers along based on their past experience and the ability shown in their racing to-date. We wanted to do an evaluation in preparation for the official test which takes place in August. We hope to continue this as a program dependent on A1GP and the availability of equipment."
Nations's Cup A1GP
In its second year, the A1GP series is a competition between almost 30 countries in a 13-round 12-country calendar. First race will be held in Holland on October 1st and the last in England in the Spring. Two rounds will be held in America. The series uses a Lola chassis with a Zytek V8 engine, six-gear paddle shift gearbox and carbon brakes. For more information, visit www.a1gp.com or www.a1teamcan.com
