France right on the pace in Shanghai with Jean-Karl Vernay in third
Friday, April 13, 2007 - The tenth round of the 2006-07 A1GP takes place at Shanghai (China Ho-Pin Tung) this weekend and A1 Team France's Jean-Karl Vernay was on the pace from the very start, finishing On only his second A1GP race weekend, third fastest time completing in 1.35.680 during the first practice session on Friday.
Jean-Karl Vernay used the first part of the rookie session to memorise the track and kept to fourth in 1.37.730. Vernay clocked the second fastest time in 1.36.695 in the second rookie session fastest time and completed 23 laps between the two rookie sessions. In the practice session Vernay clocked third fastest time completing in 1.35.6.
Jean-Karl Vernay commented: "I first saw the track on Thursday afternoon with my engineers. I was pleased to be so quick during the rookie and the practice sessions. The track is fine. But some of the teams are really strong like UK and New Zeland. We have tried several different settings on the car and if the weather remains dry, we should have good perspectives tomorrow for qualifying. It is really enjoyable to drive here."
Eric Boullier, Managing Director, A1 Team France commented: "Jean-Karl Vernay had a good day. We managed to get some good preparation done have a solid set-up for the rest of the weekend. It is a lot of efforts to resist to the pace of some of the teams that are really fast. But Jean-Karl Vernay has already learned the track well."
