DURAN STARTS FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD IN THE SPRINT RACE IN MALAYSIA
A hard day in terms of setup

SEPANG, Malaysia (November 25, 2006) - A1 Team Mexico through their driver Salvador Duran will start from the middle of the field in the A1GP World Cup Sprint race, the first of two races that will be held this Sunday at the 5.542-Km. (3.44-mile) Sepang International Circuit, in Malaysia.

About his performance this Saturday, the Mexican-born driver said: "In the practice I ran a few laps to save our new sets of tires for qualifying. Therefore, we used the practice basically to make some changes. We thought that we would have a good set up for qualifying. However, it did not result as we wanted."

"In the first qualifying session it seemed that everything was going to be fine. We went out with new tires and I had a good lap, but the Irish driver spun in front of me and involuntarily; with that situation it was spoiled the total lap time, leaving me on 13th place. In the second session I was doing well -for what we had, and we were eighth fastest. In the third segment it seemed that we were ok but it was not the case, recording only the 14th quickest time," he added.

"For the last segment they put on new tires and when I went out, I've felt the car and in the radio I told the team that the car had no grip in the back. I made a big effort to run as fast as possible, taking eighth position. At the end, in the aggregate time I was ranked 12th for starting the Sprint race. This is hard to take for us, but the track is very demanding and the heat also will be a factor. I hope we will rebound and we will obtain enough points to maintain the first place in the championship," he said.

The action resumes this Sunday at 11:00 hrs. with the 20-minute Sprint race which features a rolling start. Afterwards, the Feature race starts at 15:00 hrs. with a standing start and a mandatory pit stop.
