After the fifth round of the new A1 Grand Prix Series, Team A1 France adds two wins to its solid position at the top of the Championship.
Sepang - Sunday, 20 November 2005 - Today, the team has scored their seventh and eighth consecutive win of the season in the sprint race and the feature race. A perfect day for A1 Team France
The whole day was a perfect day for A1 Team France. In the morning, France was in front position at the warm-up (1.54.649): "During the whole weekend, we have had a very good car. The warm-up always gives a good indication about the race. I wanted very much to win the sprint race as it is so important for the feature race" said Premat.
The Malaysia sprint race was won by A1 France driver Alexandre Premat. This was the seventh win of the season for A1 Team France. Alexandre Premat worked from the start to the chequered flag to take over the lead from Switzerland Neel Jani, and it was only on the final lap that he was able to succeed. The first race however, was not easy for Premat. First, Alexandre had to pass Great Britain, Robbie Kerr getting a better start and slotting into second place behind A1 Team Switzerland. France and Great Britain battled together in the early laps of the race before fighting with Jani in the last laps of the race. Alexandre sums up the week-end: "A superb weekend for us. The car was fast from the first lap. The sprint race was hard, but went well. I had good fun driving and fighting with Jani. In the feature race, Premat also finished with a win:"I am also quite happy for the second win of the day. I did a good first lap at the start. I could get away as this time, Jani was the one fighting with Robie Kerr. Later during the race, I had a perfect pit stop and I was able to push again. I knew I had a good car. I was careful towards the end because four laps before the end, the rain started on some parts of the circuits. I am glad to be able to continue what Nicolas Lapierre and the rest of the team did in Australia. 92 points is really a good score for the Championship. This is great team-work. I had to win because of Nicolas's performance last race. Now it will be his turn again to act in Dubai. Eight wins is really excellent for A1 France."
Jean-Paul Driot, team Principal of A1 Team France, added: "I really can't say a lot more. A1 Team France is comfortable in the lead. I am happy with the team results. A perfect day."
After the fifth round of the new A1 Grand Prix Series, Team A1 France is ranking in first place of the Championship with 92 points. Today the team have scored their eighth consecutive win. Drivers Nicolas Lapierre and Alexandre Premat are two highly talented youngsters taking turns at the wheel. The next round will be staged at Dubai (UAE), where Lapierre is the nominated driver.
