Autocar Magazine to put A1 Team Great Britain to the test
London, England (May 26, 2006) - Robbie Kerr will be reunited with his A1GP car next Thursday, 1st June, as A1 Team Great Britain participates in Autocar Magazine's 0-100-0 challenge at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire.
Forming part of a stellar line-up of vehicles being put to the speed test for the magazine feature, Great Britain's Kerr will be reunited with the 520bhp A1GP car he drove to a total of seven podium finishes and a third place finish in the Nations Standings during the first season of competition in the 'World Cup of Motorsport'. Thursday's 0-100-0 test will be the first time Kerr's driven the A1 Team Great Britain entry since his final appearance in the car back in March in the penultimate round of the inaugural A1GP season at Laguna Seca, California.
By then Robbie's performances had virtually guaranteed the team third place in the championship, behind title-winners A1 Team France and A1 Team Switzerland, with Darren Manning sealing the deal with another podium finish as he replaced Kerr for the final round in China last month. With seven categories of cars being put to the 0-100-0 test, including race cars, extreme sports, super saloons, fast coupes, super cars, sports and hot hatches, Autocar's feature boasts a stunning selection of machinery from the A1GP car through to the likes of the Aston Vantage and Lotus Exige S. Included in the race car category is the Renault F1 car, a Ford Focus WRC challenger and a Ford Fiesta Rallycross entry.
Looking ahead to the test Robbie commented: "I think it's going to be pretty interesting to see how quickly we can get up to 100mph then to a complete stop. Usually when I put pedal to the metal I keep it that way so this time I'll have to remember to hit the brakes! It's a fun test and I'm looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the British A1GP car, it feels like a long time since I last raced it in America."
Autocar's 0-100-0 test is set to be syndicated globally within the next 4-6 weeks. In the UK and its 17 license editions worldwide, Autocar will be covering A1GP both in the run up to and throughout next season's races. Kerr heads back to England for the straight-line test following his World Series by Renault commitments in Monte Carlo this weekend, 27th-28th May, part of the support-race package to the 64th running of the Monaco Grand Prix. Zandvoort, Holland hosts the opening round sell-out when the A1 Grand Prix of Nations commences its new season, 30th September 1st October 2006.
