A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Monterrey, Mexico
Qualified: 17th,
Sprint Race: DNF
Feature Race: DNS

Having scored his best A1 Grand Prix finish in Indonesia, team hopes were high for a good result today. Morning warm up had given Hayanari time to check the car following improvements made overnight and he was happy with the handling. His start for the Sprint race was excellent, gaining five places on the first lap. A safety car was deployed following an incident and it was while following the traffic behind the safety car that disaster struck. A gap appeared which Hayanari went to close at the same time that the A1 Team New Zealand car in front braked. Unable to stop, he was launched over the car ahead and rolled. He emerged completely unscathed but the car was too badly damaged for him to be able to start the Feature race.

Hayanari Shimoda "It was bad timing. As I tried to close the gap in front the car ahead braked and I couldn't stop. I hit the back and then rolled over. I'm sorry for the team who put in all the work. After this and the crash I had in Australia it really shows how strong the A1 cars are."
