Philippe Gurdjian, President & CEO of the Paul Ricard HTTT welcomed yesterday Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, A1 Grand Prix founder, President and Chairman, at the South of France Test Track.
When he arrived on site last Tuesday in order to watch over the teams setting up at the Paul Ricard HTTT, Sheikh Maktoum started by having a look at the track with Philippe Gurdjian. Eventhough Sheikh Maktoum had had the opportunity to discover the track at the wheel of a prestigious car two years ago, it was important to him to see the track solution chosen by the teams for the coming test days (2Dsc), and see the new turns that have been created by Philippe Gurdjian this year (Petit Beausset and Suzuka Corners).
" A1 Grand Prix is a brand new concept and it is the first time that one can speak about a World Cup of Motorsport. Each team represents one nation and we decided to go as far as 25 countries by the start of the Series in Brand Hatch (Great Britain) next September 25th. As of today, 23 teams have been confirmed" said Sheikh Maktoum.
"We have had very positive feedback after our test session in Silverstone at the beginning of August, and we have had many many entry requests. The setting of the series and the choice for the countries has already been 'a race within the race'..." he continued.
"If we chose to complete our last official test session at the Paul Ricard HTTT before the start of the season, it is because this track is simply fabulous. It is beautiful and convenient, and most of all very safe for new and young drivers. The use of the infrastructures is really adapted to this kind of test as well as for the drivers, for the team-managers and team guests, but also for the media. A lot of TV, Photo and print media have been accredited to this session, this is very good for A1GP start. In addition, I have to say I love France and I know Bernie Ecclestone pretty well."
Philippe Gurdjian is very happy to welcome once again a new Series on the one and only test track in the World: "The venue of A1 Grand Prix at the Paul Ricard HTTT demonstrates once again, if this was necessary, that our infrastructures, our safety measures and our circuit are adapted, not only to all kind of testing, but also to the discovering of new cars and launch of new models, be it in motor sports or product manufacturing."
