50 Days until A1 Grand Prix of Nations hits Eastern Creek
SYDNEY - September 15 2005: With just 50 days until the 25 nations competing in A1 Grand Prix hit the track at Eastern Creek International Raceway for their first practice on Friday November 4, anticipation for the event is reaching fever pitch:
STRONG TICKET SALES AND LOCAL HOTEL BOOKINGS:
Many hotels around Eastern Creek are reporting strong bookings for the historic first ever World Cup of Motorsport event in Australia, with sports fans from throughout Australia and across the world preparing to converge on Western Sydney for the three day celebration of sporting pride and nationalism.
Ticketmaster, the official ticketing partner to the A1 Grand Prix of Nations, have reported a good initial response in the first week of tickets going on sale.
"If you're planning on being in Sydney for the A1 Grand Prix of Nations, now is the time to be booking accommodation so you do not miss out," said A1 Grand Prix of Nations general manager, Rod Paech.
CAPITAL WORKS UNDERWAY AT EASTERN CREEK:
As part of the $400,000 commitment from the New South Wales Government to upgrade Eastern Creek International Raceway for the A1 Grand Prix of Nations, the capital works that are required to bring the circuit up to standard have commenced.
Whilst the facelift will be mostly cosmetic, it will mean the facility will be the highest rated permanent motorsport facility in Australia, ensuring that Sydney race fans will have a venue to see world class motorsport events such as the A1 Grand Prix of Nations for many years to come.
JONES DEPARTS - MISSION: ANOTHER WORLD CUP FOR AUSTRALIA!
Team Principal for A1 Team Australia, Alan Jones, departed Australia yesterday bound for Europe, where he will base himself for the opening stanza of the A1 Grand Prix season.
He will meet up initially with A1 Team Australia driver Will Power, with Christian Jones joining the team next week after he completes Asian Formula 3 Championship commitments this weekend at Sentul in Indonesia.
Jones is looking forward to the opening event at Brands Hatch and feels our driving team will provide Australia with an excellent chance of scoring a great result first up and receiving a sizeable points haul towards our World Cup of Motorsport tally.
BRANDS HATCH GRANDSTANDS SOLD OUT!
Motorsport Vision, the promoter of the Brands Hatch circuit in England, has reported that there is not a grandstand seat available for the first ever A1 Grand Prix of Nations at the venue.
With the first round of The World Cup of Motorsport a little over one week away and the English high on nationalistic sporting fever after the cricket Ashes victory, a bumper crowd is expected at Brands, with predictions anywhere from 25,000 to 60,000 expected on race day.
Whatever the outcome, A1 is sure to be one of the biggest events ever on the spectacular circuit.
CZECHS ENGE-LING FOR WORLD CUP GLORY!
Whilst the Czech Republic is known more for it's Speedway riders than car racers, they are the latest team to join The World Cup of Motorsport, with Tomas Enge named as lead driver.
Although the country doesn't have a strong history in motorsport, Enge does, having taken out the 2002 European Formula 3000 Title and being a former Jordan Formula 1 test driver. He is currently domiciled in the United States, where he lies third in the Indy Racing League Rookie of the Year Series.
Enge's Manager, Antonin Charouz, who doubles as Seat Holder for A1 Team Czech Republic, confirmed that Enge would be joined by two up and coming Czech drivers on the driving team, Jarek Janis and Jan Charouz.
