Salaquarda just missed top 10
Filip Salaquarda and the Czech A1GP team fought very hard for a top 10 grid position at Brands Hatch and while they missed it for both races at the end they were within one tenth shy in both cases. The Czechs will be 13th on the sprint grid and 15th on the feature grid.
The Czech team continued in a very promising fashion on Saturday morning. Salaquarda was happy with the car in the last practice and after 28 laps finished 7th just three tenths from the 3rd place. The team was optimistic that they would be able to repeat the trend also in the qualifying that troubled the Czechs in the past.
The first two segments decided the sprint race grid and the team was happy after the first one. Salaquarda did 1:15.383 and was 8th. He improved to 1:15.357 in the second run but unfortunately overall finished only 13th although the gap to the top 10 was less than five hundredths.
The situation somehow repeated in the feature race qualifying. Things looked good for the Czech team after the first run when Salaquarda did 1:15.765 on scrubbed tyres and was 10th. The young Praguer improved to 1:15.690 and ended 15th although the gap to the top 10 was again very small. He needed just seven hundredths to get there.
Filip Salaquarda: "I am a bit disappointed because were had been consistently in the top 10 during the weekend and I had expected to be there also in the qualifying. My first qualifying lap was maybe the best one regarding the feeling. The car felt very good. I pushed harder in the second one but the car was not stable like before and the improvement was quite small. We used scrubbed tyres in the first feature run and once again it looked like we can get a top 10 spot. Unfortunately, the car was quite bad in the last run. We used a new set of tyres but I felt like the rears are totally different, the car was sliding a lot. It is shame because one tenths in any qualifying would have given us a top 10 grid position. It is very difficult to overtake here, the track is quite narrow. The feature race offers at least some possibilities to use a strategy and pit work to move up."
Antonin Charouz, Seat holder: "There are two sides of the coin. The first one is that we managed to close the gap to the front comparing to previous rounds. The other one is that we did not move up on the grid too much. It is going to be a tough race but the points are possible."
