A1GP DRIVER SALVADOR DURAN IS RACING WITH EX F1 JUAN PABLO MONTOYA AT DAYTONA
DAYTONA BEACH, Daytona (January 7, 2007) - A1GP driver Salvador Duran will race Rolex 24 at Daytona with former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya and Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype Grand-Am Champion (2004) Scott Pruett.
The trio will race the No.01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Lexus Riley as part of the team's two car effort, which will also feature 2006 race champions Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon along with Mexican Memo Rojas in car No.02, the latter was part of 2005 A1 Team Mexico test drivers, from which Duran was chosen as a first driver for the Mexican team.
"The testing was wrapped up this Saturday and we are very pleased with the results. I am very grateful to Mr. Chip Ganassi and my sponsor Telmex for giving me this unexpected opportunity to participate in one of the top sports car races worldwide with one of the best teams," Duran said.
"This was my first time in the car. I was fast and my team mates Juan Pablo (Montoya) and Scott (Pruett) were very supportive. We have a great team and the engineers said we are competitive. We have the chance to win, but this race is all about intelligence and experience more than being fastest. Now we are looking forward the 24-hour race," Duran said.
In the meantime, Duran is preparing for the A1 race on January 21 at Taupo, New Zealand, which will be held one week before the Daytona race. Duran's Mexican team is currently third in the A1 point standings.
