Weekend ruined at the start for BMW Team Italy-Spain
20/05/2007 - An accident at the first turn of Valencia's race one involved today both cars of the BMW Team Italy-Spain, causing the retirement from the third round of the WTCC Championship of both blameless drivers.
Felix Porteiro had anyway the chance to take part to race two, though starting from the back of the grid, while it was impossible to repair the BMW 320si of Alessandro Zanardi. The Spaniard finished 19th, penalized by a bumping due to Stefano d'Aste.
Next round of the WTCC is scheduled at Pau, France, in two weeks time.
"It is a difficult weekend to comment. The pole position slipped out of our hands with Felix Porteiro only for a banal inconvenient and both our cars have been kicked off the race a few meters after the start because of an accident caused by other drivers. I believe in the potential of our team, unfortunately some unhappy episodes prevented us to express our potential during this season opening".
