Tiago Monteriro Race of Portugal summary

Tiago Monteiro media

Two points finishes for Tiago Monteiro in Portimão

Tiago Monteiro tackled both Portuguese races in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) with the objective of securing points and putting on a good show for the fans at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. The SEAT SunRed driver was able to count on the support of his countrymen and women, and thanked him with 7th and 8th place finishes in both Portimão races, obtained after some bitter duels with his competitors.

Tiago Monteiro started from the 8th position on the grid in the first race. The driver of the SEAT Leon #18 car had a good start, which enabled him to move up one place, and then fought off attacks from his rivals. In the second race, he was 3rd at the start, and the fans were expecting big things from him, but Tiago knew it would not be a walk in the park. "I did everything I could, but both races were very difficult and I had to fight many battles, defending myself looking to attack. These 7th and 8th place finishes are good results that bring me important points for the championship," Tiago Monteiro declared.

On such a complex circuit as Portimão, Tiago quickly realized that he could not have hoped form more. "We could have done better but the engine couldn't. We have to keep on doing our best with our car and on this fast and demanding circuit we put fully grasped the difference separating us from our competitors in terms of power."

Tiago Monteiro leaves Portimão with the feeling of a job well done. Thanks to these 10 points today, he moves up two positions in the championship, putting him in 9th place. The next FIA WTCC races will be held July 21 and 22 in Brazil.
