Tiago Monteiro was one of the highlights in qualifying for the 2013 season finale of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, which is taking place on the legendary Guia circuit in Macau . The Portuguese driver was among the fastest in earlier practice sessions and secured 2nd place on the starting grid for race one. The reverse grid rule he will then see him start in 9th place for race two.
For Tiago Monteiro the result is "better than we expected. Although we have always been fast, we feared our opponents here. But on this track, speed is not the only factor. Experience and confidence play a huge role and everything went well. I'm happy."The qualifying session was disrupted several times by drivers going off track, causing the session to be stopped on several occasions but for Sunday's races, Tiago is hoping for a good chance to finish the season on the podium. "To go for the win, I first must pass Muller at the start and that will not be easy.
But, nothing is impossible! I would be happy to just finish on the podium. The team has done an awesome job in the second half of the season. We took a step forward at all levels and everyone deserves this reward. We'll see what the races bring. Anything can happen in Macau."
The two Macau races will be broadcasted live on Eurosport from 3am on Sunday December 17th.
