Just one week on from his excellent performance at the Slovakia Ring where he secured a front row start followed by a podium finish, Tiago Monteiro proved it was not a one off by delivering two more great performances, this time at the Hungaroring in Hungary.
For the fourth round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, the Portuguese driver set the second fastest time in the first free practice session before putting his Honda Civic into 6th and 4th in the two qualifying sessions. This means he will start race one from fourth on the grid and race two in seventh, due to the reverse grid rule and he is satisfied with the day's performance...
"I'm pretty happy with 4th place. With an added 30kg of ballast, we knew it would be impossible to fight for pole position this weekend," said the Honda Civic # 18 driver. "So being in the leading group is an excellent result."
The Budapest races will be held on a circuit that doesn't promote overtaking and requires total concentration at all times. "It will be difficult and the start will be vital as the first two corners are very crucial," confirmed Tiago.
"In addition to this, it will be necessary to take into account the fact that the track is very abrasive, so a good race strategy will be vital. But, our car is competitive and I think we can get two good results and score some important points in both championships."
