Tiago Monteiro Completes Two Days of Tests at Jarama
Tiago Monteiro carried out two days of tests under the SEAT Sport program dedicated to its preparation for the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
After the encouraging tests at Estoril, the team continued to have confidence in the Iberian peninsula and headed for Jarama.SEAT Sport has concentrated on improving several details of the Leon TDI. The first day, Thursday, Tiago completed 75 track laps; he added 66 more to his counter the next day. The significant mileage racked up by the Portuguese driver made it possible to better understand the behavior of the SEAT Leon TDI and to optimize its settings.
The team was particularly attentive to work on the suspension and the longevity of the front tyres which suffer from greater wear with the sedan powered by the TDI engine, heavier than its gasoline-powered counterpart.
The two days of tests were fruitful and gave Tiago great confidence just two weeks from the start of the championship. "These two days were very interesting and yielded promising results. We beat the track record that belonged to Jordi Gene since 2005, Tiago explained, after an immense amount of work I can confirm with assurance that we are getting faster and faster even though it is impossible to compare us to our competitors. The test schedule is unfolding as planned, with no pressure, and the results come naturally. I am very satisfied with these tests, which were my last before the first race of the championship. The SEAT Leon TDI is only showing encouraging signs. It is harder to master but we are getting more and more comfortable with it and we are gaining in experience."
The countdown is coming to an end: FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) will start on March 1 and 2 at Curitiba, Brazil, a few days after the official presentation of the SEAT Sport team in Madrid.
