Tiago Monteiro has started the final round of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship (FIA WTCC) on the right foot today, the Portuguese driver, Honda and JAS Motorsport making the most of the final opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Honda Civic on the Guia circuit around the streets of Macau.

After setting the fastest time in the first free practice session, then the 2nd and 5th in the remaining two sessions, Tiago Monteiro faced qualifying with confidence with a highly selective system that has always been successful in the past, including a podium in 2010.

Taking place on dry but overcast track, the first qualifying session allowed Tiago Monteiro to demonstrate the progress made by his team since discovering the FIA WTCC.

The Portuguese racer recorded the third best time, wedged between the two Chevrolets. The second session confirmed the potential of the Honda Civic and its driver with the fifth best time overall.

With the reversed grid order, Tiago will start from fifth and sixth places.

"It is a great satisfaction," rejoiced Tiago Monteiro, "This circuit is incredibly difficult to master, it is very long and it doesn't give any room for error with the barriers and many yellow or red flags that can ruin your efforts.

JAS Motorsport and Honda have done a remarkable job to prepare the Honda Civic. It is very responsive and effective, especially in the turns.

Competing with the Chevrolets was not our goal and we are very pleased to have succeeded in doing this. But, the weekend is long and the races will be demanding.

Our goal will be to finish the year with two points finishes to prepare for 2013 with even more confidence and serenity."
