N.Technology Alfa Romeo driver James Thompson maintained his 10th qualifying position in today's first FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) round in Porto, despite an incident-filled race.

Team-mate Olivier Tielemans wasn't as lucky however, when a touch in the barriers at turn 10 ended his race. The 23-year-old retired from 16th position.

Andrea Muller, Team Principal

"Racing on street circuits is notoriously difficult with limited or no overtaking opportunities. We kept our position which is good and let's hope for a good second race."

James Thompson, car number 15

"I pushed all the way, that's not a problem and had there been any chances of passing, I was ready and able -- the team did a brilliant job repairing the car yesterday after qualifying. Let's see what the rest of the day can bring!"
