(19 September 2013, Hong Kong) The 2013 FIA World Touring Car Championship season reaches its climax this weekend as the Race of Japan lifts the curtain of the Asia Trilogy that will see the championship stays in the region for the final three races of the calendar. Currently ranked sixth on the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy with 51 points, Darryl O’Young aims to further push himself on the track searching for his first win of the season.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s test drive, O’Young has a clear mind of what he needs to do to achieve his targets.
“First and foremost, I wish everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival! As for the WTCC, I am looking to build on my good form at Suzuka this weekend to take that small step forward to earning a strong result. We have come too close many times this season and it leaves a very unsatisfied feeling with me. I will push ahead just that little bit more in hopes of earning the reverse-grid pole position, which is the only way to deliver my first victory in the WTCC. I want it really bad and will continue to work hard for it,” said the determined Hong Kong-based race driver.
O’Young will be no stranger to the all-famous Suzuka circuit, which is hosting the WTCC for the third time. In his previous two appearances on the 2.2 kilometers long track, the 33-year-old managed to score points on three of the four rounds over the last two seasons. Two 26-lap races will be held on the Suzuka East circuit this weekend, where drivers tend to complete any lap around the 53 seconds mark.
