O’Young records two points-finish on Chevrolet return in Japan

Hong Kong racer Darryl O’Young made a good start of his return to former team Bamboo Engineering. The Chinese driver notched up two points-finish in the independent class in the WTCC Race of Japan to bring home five Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy points.

“It was a great first race back with Bamboo Engineering in the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T. It took me some time to adjust back to the car and the team, but we got up to speed very quickly.

Starting from overall P12 in both rounds at Suzuka, O’Young was able to pull off some respectable results in each round.

The 32-year-old race driver finished overall P11 and independent P5 in an uneventful opening round, after Aleksei Dudukalo was given a 30 second drive-through which demoted him from sixth to the 18th.

Despite starting poorly in the second and having lost four places off the start, O’Young followed up with determined performance. He fought back hard and finished overall P13 and independent P8 to take home five valuable points from the Race of Japan.

The 2012 World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) season will resume in Shanghai in a fortnight for the first of the two final races on the calendar.
