(5 September 2013, Hong Kong) The World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) reaches its final third of the 2013 Season, with the Race of USA, to be held this weekend on the Sonoma Runway in California, fast approaching. Hong Kong-based race driver Darryl O’Young admits it has been a disappointing season for him thus far, but the 33-year-old is determined to turn things around amid some stern tests in the final four races of the current season.
“I am not looking at the season point standings anymore. I only care about winning races and getting on the overall podium. I won’t let a bad season mentally stand in my way to succeed, so I will fight each and everytime I am in the car until I get there,” said Darryl, who now sits sixth on the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy table with 47 points from eight races, 11 points behind fifth-placed Italian driver Stefano D’Aste.O’Young added that he is looking forward to this weekend’s race, for one particular reason, “The track is very well suited to the BMW as there is only short straights with low top speed. From last year, I remembered the track had low grip, so it will be crucial to find a setup that works well in those conditions.”
This is the second time the Sonoma Runway plays host to a WTCC event, after first making its debut last season. The track is slightly longer than four kilometers, and drivers are required to compete in two races of 13 laps each.
