Zanardi author of the best result among BMW drivers at Monza
Within the spectacular framework offered today by the tens of thousands spectators on Monza's grand stands, Alessandro Zanardi, thanks to the sixth place in race two, scored the best result among BMW drivers in a though weekend for the Monaco based brand. In race one, the Italian driver concluded thirteenth after losing some positions at the "prima variante" due to a contact between some opponents in front of him.
Troubled weekend for Felix Porteiro instead, who did not manage to exploit the seventh place of the grid obtained yesterday in qualifying. The Spaniard battled long for the eighth position in race one, but an error at the first chicane relegated him to the nineteenth final position under the chequered flag. Race two did not turn out to be happier for him, being sandwiched between two opponents in the early stages of the race. The damages occurred on his 320si forced Porteiro to the retirement a few laps after the incident.
The Touring Car World Championship will come to its end next 18 November on the city track of Macau.
Roberto Ravaglia (Team Manager):
"It has certainly been a difficult weekend for BMWs and the result achieved by Zanardi partially rescued the overall outcome of the event. Unfortunately, in qualifying Alessandro did not exploit to the maximum his last lap due to traffic and therefore he lost the chance of a more forward getaway. Porteiro did not succeed in finishing race one in eighth position, as we hoped, and in race two he had to start from the back of the grid, whereby it is quite easy to get involved in problems connected to the initial bagarre".
