SEAT Sport ready to take on Macau "lottery"

With the 2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship about to enter its closing stages, no fewer than nine drivers are still in with a chance of winning the WTCC Drivers' title, while SEAT Sport and BMW are now the only teams capable of lifting the Manufacturers' Championship trophy.

Two races around the challenging street circuit of Macau will decide the two World titles, although memories of the 2005 WTCC deciders are still fresh in many minds and so the races around the gambling paradise of Macau are frequently described as a "lottery" for good reason.

Last year, Race 1 was red-flagged after a first-lap pile-up at the notorious Lisboa corner, while a string of incidents in Race 2 saw the frequent deployment of the safety car. Despite all the dramas, SEAT Sport was the only team to enjoy a 100% finishing record, with Rickard Rydell's 3rd place in Race 1 the highlight of the weekend for the team.

Rydell has good reason to like Macau; he won the Formula 3 World Cup in 1992, while his SEAT Sport teammate Jordi Gene finished 2nd the previous year after winning one of the two heats. A valuable addition to the team's experience this year will be Macau resident Andre Couto who, as a newcomer to the WTCC, will carry just 20kgs of "success ballast".
