Rickard Rydell will compete with a SEAT Leon in Macau
SEAT Sport has boosted its structure with Rickard Rydell in preparation for the final assault on the FIA World Touring Car Championship. Rydell is the Swedish driver who gave SEAT its first win at the FIA European Touring Car Championship and joined the Spanish team for three years.
Recalling Rydell for the final WTCC race, which takes place on the Macau urban track on 18 November, requires an extra effort in view of the complexities involved in increasing the team's structure to compete at a track so far away from Europe. But the Drivers' and Manufacturers' titles are at stake, and SEAT Sport, together with Yvan Muller, stand a good chance of winning.
Rydell is vastly experienced at both the touring car races and on the Macau track. He won the F3 race there in 1992, and in 2005 finished 3rd at the wheel of a SEAT Toledo. The team will benefit from his experience and background in the deciding race of this exciting season closer.
Rickard Rydell: "I'm really looking forward to joining the SEAT Sport team for the race in Macau. I feel right at home with SEAT and it'll be good to work with them again. My main goals of course are to support the team to win the Manufacturers' Championship and Yvan Muller in the Drivers'. Macau has always been one of my favourites because I like urban tracks, and coming back to one that saw me win an F3 race brings back fond memories."
Jaime Puig, SEAT Sport director: "Rickard Rydell will always be a part of the SEAT Sport family. Don't forget it's thanks to him that we got our first win at the ETCC. We are all tremendously happy to have Rickard on the team for the deciding race in Macau, and his experience will be very important to us."
