One of those Days…Part 2

Having endured the most difficult Qualifying session of the season so far yesterday, Team AON Ford Focus racer James Nash was hoping for better luck in Sunday’s two World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) races on the Algarve Circuit near Portimao in Portugal.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for after starting strongly in both races and making up several places from his P21 grid start, Nash was forced to retire from each race. It marked the first time ever in his motor racing career that he had failed to finish two races in which he’d started at the same event.

James Nash: “ A disappointing conclusion to a disappointing weekend. In race one I damaged the car in a clash with Ng’s BMW and unfortunately, the lasting legacy of that soon made the second race extremely difficult. In the end I thought discretion was a more sensible option than valour given that we were racing so far down the field anyway.”

“We will pick ourselves up from what has been our most challenging race weekend so far in the WTCC. We’ve got a six-week long gap until the next event in Brazil in July, and while I think the cars actually go out in a couple of weeks or so I hope that we can still use the time to get to the bottom of the issues with the car we haven’t been able to solve this weekend.”

“My pride is dented with the two non-finishes though my enthusiasm and determination to succeed remain undiminished.”
