James Nash finished in fifth place overall at Suzuka

World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) racer James Nash finished both of Sunday’s races on Japan’s famous Suzuka Circuit in fifth place overall in his Bamboo Engineering Chevrolet Cruze.

Starting from P5 in the opening race and P6 in the second, the results were no less than the 27 year-old from Milton Keynes in England deserved after a solid weekends work. However, most satisfying was the fact that the results meant that Nash climbed up to fourth place in the overall driver’s Championship and retook the lead of the Independents with just four races to go this season.

James Nash: “ I’m fairly happy with the results today. I lost a couple of places on the rolling start in race one but got them back and in race two I enjoyed a good clean battle throughout with my main rivals in the overall Championship Gabriele Tarquini in the Honda and Tom Chilton in the RML Cruze.”

“ With it being the business end of the season everyone now is looking at the standings so it is vital to finish first and then to finish well and despite a couple of dicey moments in race one I managed to do both today.”

“Congratulations to Yvan Muller on winning the overall Championship and while Tarquini is going to be very difficult to dislodge from second there’s only two points between me and Chilton for third so it’s game on!”

“ It looks like it is possible too that I can win the Independent title at the next event in China which would be fantastic.”

“ I also want to say that it has been great working again with Race Engineer Kevin Berry. Kevin was on my car at Triple Eight when together we won the British Touring Car Championship Independent title in 2011. He’s with me now for the rest of the season and it is a real boost to have secured his services.”
