RML APPOINTS NEW WTCC TEAM MANAGER
With the new FIA WTCC season just weeks away, RML has appointed Graham Watson to undertake the role of Team Manager for the Chevrolet Cruze outfit as it looks to conquer the prestigious world championship title this year with Rob Huff, Alain Menu and new signing, Yvan Muller, at the helm.
Graham joins RML with a wealth of motorsport experience, starting his early career in the World Rally Championship before making the switch to single seaters in the early nineties, leading Paul Stewart Racing's Formula Vauxhall entry and later progressing into the now re-badged F3000 series.
Since 1997, Graham's career has progressed through team management with top line names in Formula 1, including Benetton and Honda. Most recently, RML's new recruit was instrumental in developing and managing the team for Campos' 2010 F1 campaign.
Speaking on his new role, Graham summarised: "I am very happy to join RML and such a competitive and high-profile championship as the WTCC, having spent many years in Formula 1. I am just starting in my new role as Team Manager and clearly, everything is pretty new to me! This test session was very useful; to see the car on track for the first time, and to get to know all the team members in a real-life set-up. This is a new, exciting challenge and I look forward to the 2010 season."
Of RML's new addition, Chief Executive, Ray Mallock added: "It's a pleasure to welcome Graham to the team and we look forward to working together in what everybody at RML and Chevrolet intend to make a championship fighting year for the Cruze.
Graham has extensive knowledge of the industry and shows the commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement and being the best, which are essential elements of all RML programmes. Through his previous roles within F1, working alongside the FIA, he is very familiar with competitive, high-profile and demanding race programmes such as this.
It's an exciting time for all at RML as we head toward the first WTCC race of the year, with two new faces in the garage, Graham and Yvan. Pre-season testing has been highly encouraging and already with several wins last year in its maiden season, we can boast a hugely competitive package with the Cruze and offer a very experienced and talented driver line-up."
