SEAT Sport dominates Brazil qualifying

Today's 30-minute qualifying session for Round 9 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship saw 5 of the top 6 times set by SEAT Sport cars. For much of the session, it appeared that Peter Terting would claim pole position for tomorrow's opening race, but his time was beaten by local hero Augusto Farfus with around 13 minutes of the session remaining and then Jordi Gene's SEAT Sport Leon grabbed second place on the grid in the session's closing minutes. A brave attempt by Peter to regain the top spot very nearly succeeded, but a mistake on the very last corner saw the young German driver having to settle for 3rd place behind the Spaniard..

With both Jordi and Peter carrying comparatively little "success ballast" (5kgs and 10kgs respectively), it was to be expected that they would lead the SEAT Sport challenge in Brazil. Gabriele Tarquini's car is carrying 40kgs of extra weight this weekend, with both Rickard Rydell and James Thompson carrying 55kgs of ballast and so their qualifying performances were particularly impressive; Gabriele will start Race 1 from 4th place, while Rickard and James round off the top 6. Completing the SEAT success story in Curitiba was Tom Coronel, whose SEAT Holland Leon was the fastest of the Yokohama Independent Trophy competitors in 12th place.
