Craft-Bamboo Racing will return to the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) this season in its new 2015 Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T with driver Gregoire Demoustier (FR) and sponsor EURODATACAR.
After winning the WTCC Independent Teams title and finishing third overall in 2013, the Silverstone-based crew took a season-long sabbatical from the championship, but is reuniting with Chevrolet for the 2015 season, starting with the opening round in Argentina on 8 March.
“I’m delighted to announce our return to the WTCC and to be working with Gregoire,” commented Craft-Bamboo Racing CEO Richard Coleman. “We are limited in our preparation time but I hope to be in good shape for Argentina.“
Craft-Bamboo Racing have been an excellent team in the past and I am really looking forward to working with them and learning the car.
The car is in build for mid-February and Craft-Bamboo Racing aims to have it ready to ship to South America a few days later. The team has renewed its relationship with long-term partner RML, something Coleman is pleased to confirm:
“I am very happy to renew our relationship with RML. We are only down the road from each other and have had five years working together in touring cars in the past. We are still working hard on a second car and hope to expand the line up.”
23-year old Demoustier, best known for his GT racing career, is looking forward to working with Craft-Bamboo Racing, a team that has a great reputation and track-record.
“I am very happy to be joining the WTCC,” he commented. “Craft-Bamboo Racing have been an excellent team in the past and I am really looking forward to working with them and learning the car. The first season will be a steep learning curve but I am sure we will achieve some good results.”
Craft-Bamboo Racing, previously known in the WTCC as Bamboo Engineering, has contested the championship four times winning multiple races and, in 2013, securing the highly-sought-after Independents Title with Chevrolet.
“Eurosport Events is delighted to see Craft-Bamboo Racing coming back to WTCC,” commented Francois Ribeiro. “Their track-record in the championship speaks for itself and we never stayed too far away from Richard since the end of 2013.
"Given Gregoire’s GT background at ART, we are certain he will feel comfortable at Craft-Bamboo Racing. We look forward to see him on the grid and welcome him into WTCC.”
The first round of the 2015 WTCC is on 8 March at the Autodromo Terma de Rio Hondo in Argentina.
