Matteo Pellegrino is Getting Ready For The Challenge.
The two day private test session that precedes the 4th round of the World Light Series in Valencia has just ended. Matteo Pellegrino did well today despite encountering a few technical problems that influenced his performance.
On Thursday, Matteo had problems with the set up and then with the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) but despite these inconveniences, Pellegrino managed to set the second best time (1'27''440).
Today (Friday) was a more positive day. This morning, Matteo who had on old tyres, was able to keep up with his team-mate Pavlovic who had on new tyres instead. The temperature increased by 10 this afternoon and this totally threw off Matteo's plans. Pellegrino was the first to get on track with new tyres but the altered conditions of the asphalt prevented him from lowering his time.
"We are working really hard in Valencia to get the car in tip top shape even if we have had some technical problems. We started the session on Thursday with the wrong set up but we patiently and steadily worked hard and in the afternoon, the car was already performing better. It was the bad set up that made me go off track when I was at a long chicane. I ruined the back and front wing but luckily I didn't get hurt. The car suffered more than I did. On Thursday afternoon, I set the second best time with new tyres on. I didn't run too many laps but managed to do well even with the ECU problem.
I set a great time with old tyres on Friday morning but we weren't able to take advantage of the new tyres in the afternoon. During acceleration and while braking ,the car would bounce too much and so I had to deal with a lot of under steering .We are presently analysing the data from the telemetry to prepare the car for tomorrow's qualifications.
I have to underline the fact that in Valencia the heat highly influences the qualifying session and the race. In fact, it's important to set a good time tomorrow during the first 2 laps. During the race, our physical condition will count a lot as well if we consider the thermal stress we will have to bear. Sometimes it feels like I'm not in the cockpit but in a sauna! I hope that I do well tomorrow because it's fundamental to be in the leading positions on this track."
