World Series Top Drivers Kovalainen, Bernoldi and Monteiro, Half Way To F1
Heikki Kovalainen, Enrique Bernoldi and Tiago Monteiro are currently the strongest candidates for the 2004 Title. Bernoldi and Monteiro, like Kovalainen, had been included recently in the list of F-1 test drivers. The three of them are half way to Formula One.
BAR Honda has signed a contract with the Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi as a test driver for the remaining season. Over these two years of competition in the World Series by Nissan, Bernoldi's hopes were always focused in a return to F-1. Enrique, the current World Series by Nissan Runner Up with GD Racing, can not hide his feelings: "This is mega! I feel very grateful with Team BAR Honda for giving me such an opportunity. I think that my performance in the World Series added to my two years of experience in Formula One had been very important for this to happen. I feel very motivated and I will try to help the Team as much as I can. The Team has an option and I may stay with them for two years."
Last Friday, in Vallelunga, the Carlin Motorsport driver Tiago Monteiro did a successful test with the Minardi Cosworth Team. The Portuguese driver proved to be very regular, improving lap by lap and merited the compliments of the Team. Tiago, who is third in the Series, was very positive with his experience: "It's been two years since I drove my first Formula One car. The Minardi Cosworth Team had been very helpful with me, like a family! Every time I went on track I have improved my lap time. I'm really satisfied due that I was driving a reserve car with an engine test, in a track that I never had ran before. After a meeting with the engineers, the team have decided to do another test in Misano, next November. Obviously, I know that the Minardi Team needs some help, so I'm currently working in Portugal to find the budget."
Eight Teams of the World Series by Nissan will be testing in Estoril next Thursday (September 9), the week prior the celebration of the next meeting in Portugal, the next 19th of September.
