Tech 1 and Charles Pic: sights set on the same objective!
When you've got into the habit of winning, it's difficult to give it up! Tech 1 Racing, victorious in the 2007 and 2008 teams' championship in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, has but a single aim in 2009 -- keep its title and win the drivers' championship again. To achieve this the Toulouse-based squad is counting on Charles Pic who has just been integrated into the Renault Driver Development programme.
In 2007 and 2008, Tech 1 Racing had a couple of very successful years winning both the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and the Eurocup Megane Trophy. These successes have not quenched Simon Abadie's and his merry men's thirst for victory.
The team is aiming even higher in 2009 as Simon explains. "Defending a title is always a difficult task as all our rivals will be gunning for us and out to beat us. We achieved the feat of winning two Renault 3.5 Series teams' titles on the trot and the Megane Trophy three times in a row. To make an even bigger impact and continue our climb up the ladder, we have to aim for both titles again this year. We can count on a stable and well-honed team to do this. Today, Tech 1 Racing has accumulated a lot of experience and we have but a single aim -- victory!"
The team is counting on Charles Pic in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for the second year running. The young driver from Montelimar who was born in 1990, will have learned a lot from a very promising first season and will be aiming for the title. Charles, one of France's coming men, is already a member of the FFSA Equipe de France, and this year he has been integrated into the Renault Driver Development programme (RDD).
"Charles learned a lot last season. His two wins in Monaco and at Le Mans as well as his approach to racing and his way of working have opened the doors to the Renault Driver Development programme," is how Simon analyses it. "It's a great opportunity for him and he knows he has to deliver. I hope that what we put in place with Charles last year will pay off this season. He knows the little things he's got to improve and where he still has to progress, and the drivers' title is well within his grasp. It's our job to give him the best car possible. It's going to be a challenging season with the teams' and drivers' titles in our sights."
Pic's teammate has yet to be selected and his name will be announced in the next few weeks; "We're looking at the best options. We hope to enter a driver alongside Charles who's as quick and as good at scoring points for the team. To rack up good results in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, more than in any other, you have to be consistent, capable of finding the right set-up straight away for each circuit and not make mistakes. Again this year there will be another very evenly-matched field, and several drivers will be battling for the title. As we saw in 2008 it's crucial to get off to a good start: you have be 100% right from the word go!"
The first collective test session will take place on the Jerez circuit on 10th-11th March and the season will kick off in Barcelona on 18th-19th April.
