RPM Racing welcomes Sito Pons in The World Series by Nissan
The new entered team Pons Racing has signed an agreement with the Renault Drivers Development Program and confirms Heikki Kovalainen in the team.
Barcelona, 3 February 2003 - RPM Racing is pleased to announce you that the two-time World Motorcycling Champion, current MotoGP Team leader and Principal of Pons Racing, Sito Pons, has announced the birth of a new single-seater team competing in the World Series by Nissan. This new project will be developed while maintaining its current activity in the MotoGp World Championship with the Camel Honda Team.
Pons Racing will be facing this new single-seater competition program in association with Jesus Sanchez, former Technical Director in Gabord Competicion. Sanchez worked as a technician with Sito Pons in the Motorcycle World Championships between 1984 and 1988, and alongside engineer Juan F. Krutchkoff, who also joins Pons Racing, was responsible for the victories of Ricardo Zonta 2002, Franck Montagny in 2003, as well as for the second position of Heikki Kovalainen in 2003.
Furthermore, an agreement has been reached between Pons Racing and the Renault Driver Development Program (RDD), a solid project aimed to support the racing careers of talented drivers, with the confirmation of the Finish driver Heikki Kovalainen in the Team for the 2004 Season. The 21-year old driver finished in second position, sharing the team with current RenaultF1driver and 2003 Champion of the World Series by Nissan, Franck Montagny.
