Guillaume Moreau gathers experience
The Formula Renault 3.5 Series resumed at the Nurburgring after the 6-week summer break, and Guillaume Moreau continued to improve the SG Formula/KMP Group's car.
Guillaume Moreau arrived on the legendary Nurburgring circuit encouraged by his podium finish in Portimao in August, and was determined to repeat the same exploit. The French driver knows the track like the back of his hand, and he used the collective test sessions to gather data in view of qualifying. "After our result in Portimao, our aim was to pursue the development of the car. As testing is forbidden outside the meetings, we took advantage of Friday to gather data. We used a different setup to the one in Portimao and it proved very tricky."
On Saturday morning on a cold track, Guillaume went out as soon as the lights went green with the aim of getting into the SuperPole for the second time on the trot. The SG Formula/KMP Group driver did a lot of laps and after 20 minutes set the third-quickest time. "We went back to the Portimao setup with a few aerodynamic adjustments: the car's handling was better and the times reflected this." In the SuperPole Guillaume set the eleventh-best time, his grid position for the first race.
He started from the clean side of the track and although he made a good getaway he was unable to avoid another car in the first corner. He was thirteenth the end of lap 1and fought his way back up to tenth and crossed the line just outside the points. "I made a great start but I got caught up in the mid-field in the first corner. After a slight touch that damaged my front wing, I lost several places but I then managed to overtake my rivals. Unfortunately, another car hit me and that ruined the end of the race as I could have finished in the first six. Nonetheless, I'm satisfied as our race pace was good proved by the fact that I set the best time in the second sector."
Unfortunately, the second race ended very quickly for Guillaume. The SG Formula/KMP Group driver started from thirteenth place but retired a few laps later. "I was hit by another car at the start and my wheel was completely twisted. I tried to continue but it was too difficult. I had no choice but to come into the pits."
Although Guillaume had an unlucky weekend in Germany, he still managed to continue developing Stephane Guerin's team's cars." We found a number of answers to our questions. We're going to continue working on the data for the last round in Spain."
At Motorland Aragon, the driver from the Limousin region will be aiming to finish the season on a high note. "We'll arrive at Motorland determined to end the year with a good result. The circuit will be new for everybody and the other teams 'experience won't really be of much help. So I'm going to go for another podium finish."
The final round of the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Series will take place in Spain from 23rd October in the Alcaniz region in Spain.
