Jarama Round Opens The 2004 World Series By Nissan Season
2003 Runner-up Heikki Kovalainen claims for victory
The World Series by Nissan Season quick's-off at Jarama the next 28th of March
Barcelona 18 March 2004 -- The World Series by Nissan Season is about to start the next week in Jarama. The Series will have 9 double rounds: Jarama (28 March) Zolder (25 April), Magny Cours (23 May) Valencia (20 June) Lausitzring (8 august) Estoril (19 September) Barcelona (3 October) Valencia (17 October) and Zhuhai (31 October).
These FIA Sanctioned Series are run alongside the World Series Light (Dallara AER 250 Hp) and the Spanish Formula Championship (Formula Junior 1600).
The Dallara Nissan cars will be technically the same (450-hp Nissan engine, Dallara chassis, and Michelin S510 type tyres).
After being in command last Sunday in the pre-season official collective tests, Heikki Kovalainen and his new entered team Pons Racing are claiming for victory. The Finnish will be lined-up alongside the Spaniard Adrian Valles.
Porfesa Competicion and Paul Belmondo Racing are also new teams in the World Series by Nissan. While the Porfesa driver Felix Porteiro outstanded in Jarama, finishing in top3, Formula One refugee Enrique Bernoldi (GD Racing) was also in command.
Indian ace Narain Kartikheyan (RC Motorsport) was at lead during the first day of testing in Barcelona, but the 2003 runner-up, Heikki Kovalainen, demolished the official lap record almost in two seconds in the final day.
Tiago Monteiro (Carlin Motorsport), Ryo Fukuda (Belmondo Racing), Tristan Gommendy (Saulnier Racing), Boris Derichebourg (Belmondo Racing) had their first drive in the Dallara Nissan car. Their debut was more than good, finishing in top 10 positions.
The Series will display a total of 19 cars in the provisional grid but definitively the World Series by Nissan 2004 has emerged as the most competitive 3.000 c.c. single-seater series, with both KTR top driver Jouanny and Juan Cruz Alvarez, in the list of big animators.
