Firman to race Gabord Competicion Dallara in Formula Nissan World Series
26 March 2004-- Ralph Firman will drive in this weekend's opening two rounds of the Formula Nissan World Series in Jarama, Spain, for the Barcelona-based Gabord Competicion team, winners of the championship in 2002 and 2003. The 28- year old English star, who last year drove for Jordan in the Formula One World Championship, will drive the number 1 car in the full Championship. This year's 18-race schedule boasts rounds in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, France and China.
A former British and FIA Formula 3 Champion, Firman won the 2002 Formula Nippon Championship in Japan before progressing to Formula One last year, where he scored his maiden Championship point for Jordan in Barcelona.
"I am delighted to join Gabord Competicion as the team aims to capture a third successive Formula Nissan World Series title," said Firman. "The team has clearly dominated the Championship in previous seasons so although I have little preparation time before this weekend's opening events I know they have everything in place to give me the chance to do well. There are very few prestigious Championships outside Formula One but the Nissan World Series is one of them and to have been offered this drive comes as a great boost to me. I would like to thank Gabord Competicion and the Mazel Group for their support."
