Franck Montagny sets the fastest time in Jarama.

Former F1 driver, Ricardo Zonta, and the Frenchman Jean Christophe Ravier completed the three top positions under very hot weather conditions.

Madrid, 24 de abril 2002 ? Former Open Telefónica Champ, Franck Montagny (Racing Engineering) has set again the fastest time (1.23.309) in the 1st day of Collective Tests taking place at Madrid. The top category WORLD SERIES cars have been very quick here at the El Jarama Circuit. Ricardo Zonta (Gabord Competición) and Jean Christophe Ravier topped the list of times, just a few tenths behind.

Weather conditions had been extremely hot in this 1st day, so all three drivers decided to go on new tyres at the end of the journey, in search of some impressive times.

The UK driver Justin Wilson (Racing Engineering) had a very bad day, as Team and Technical staff tried to solve a problem with the clutch, loosing almost the whole session.

Several personalities showed up in the Spanish capital to admire the V6 Nissan engineered cars and their spectacular shape. The Vice President of the FIA visited the Circuit to have a first contact with all the teams and drivers, just before flying to Barcelona, where the Spanish F1 Grand Prix will be held this weekend.

This second official tests will be the last chance for the 20 international drivers to set up their cars just before the TELEFONICA WORLD SERIES quicks off in Valencia, the 12th of May.

The FIA WORLD SERIES will continue to test tomorrow morning, and in the afternoon it will be the turn of the Fia Series Formula Nissan 2000, where the son of the F1 Champ, Niki Lauda, Mathias, will make his debut in single-seater competition.
