WALKER GETS TO GRIPS WITH NEW CAR

James gets his first drive of the 2008 World Series by Renault car in Valencia

Jersey, UK: James Walker travelled to Valencia in Spain this week for his first taste of the brand new World Series by Renault car. The Jersey racer, who will drive for Fortec Motorsport in 2008, has had to wait a long time to get his hands on the new machine but it was well worth the wait.

The design of the new car was based on the 2007 Renault Formula One car, which explains its stunning looks. The chassis is narrower and features an all-new aerodynamic configuration that includes new sidepods and front wing. The 24V V6 Renault engine now delivers an awesome 500bhp.

Day one of the test started well and James was able to complete two good runs in the new car. It was tough to get a feel for the new aerodynamics as it was very windy in Valencia. Quite how windy it was became apparent just over two hours into testing when a marquee on the top of the pit building came crashing down into the paddock. Luckily there were no serious injuries but it put a stop to testing for the day.

With a lot to get through on day two, the teams ran right through the lunch break. Each team has only taken delivery of one new car so far, so James ran in the afternoon session, running through various set-up possibilities, adjusting ride height and wing positions to see how the new car reacted to these changes.

"We had a good test, once things got going," said James. "It was really a shakedown for us so we could get a feel for the new car and be ready to hit the ground running at the next test in Barcelona. The new car feels great and I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in now."

James is next out on track during the three-day Barcelona test in early April. The teams will have their second new car by then so they can get in plenty of running at the home of the Spanish Grand Prix.
