BUDAPEST: STEFANO COLETTI OBTAINS A POINT IN A DIFFICULT WEEKEND
Difficult exit for Stefano Coletti at Budapest, in the sixth round of the World Series by Renault 2010. On Friday, the color bearer to team Comtec set the second fastest lap in free practice and this generated a prudent optimism on the outcome of the weekend.
The first session of qualifying on Saturday did not confirm expectations and ended with the twelfth lap time with a second and two tenth from the poleman Daniel Ricciardo (Tech 1). In race Coletti tried the recovery anyway, but his action ended during the seventeenth lap due to a problem to the fuel pump.
In the second turn of qualifying held this morning, with a standard aerodynamic load, the sixth lap time opened a positive glimmer for the second race. Track conditions meanwhile changed and the driver from Monaco was forced to a defensive tactic but he managed to obtain a point thanks to the final tenth place.
Coletti is currently eighth in classification at 43 points. Aleshin is at the lead with 97 and is followed by Ricciardo (86) and Pentus (69).
"This has been quite a difficult weekend. The car was really fast on Friday but something changed and both yesterday and today we did not manage to confirm the same level of performance. Today in qualifying I was counting on getting within the first two rows to partially redeem the retirement from race one, but unfortunately during the race it was impossible to defend the initial sixth place.
"The situation in the classification is now a bit more complicated but I won't give up: we sitll have the potential to aim at the victory and the third final place is still at our reach".
The World Series by Renault will be back on track next 5 September at Hockenheim (Germany).
