2003 reigning World Series by Nissan Team, Gabord Competición, and Reinaldo Cozzani join forces to make the World Series Light Champion Juan Cruz Álvarez race in the top category.
Barcelona, 5 February 2004 -- Reigning World Series by Nissan 2003 Team, Gabord Competición, has confirmed this afternoon by an official press release that Juan Cruz Alvarez (17), the current World Series Light Champ, will race the World Series by Nissan in this team.
Juan Cruz became the first winner of the World Series Light category after taking 8 victories. Cruz Alvarez was already tipped to join Gabord after taking part in a test last December, at Valencia. Juan's racing CV is quite small: he came directly from go-kart and last year was his first single-seater competition.
Gabord Competición will announce shortly the second driver, as they have reported to be in final discussions with two International drivers. On the other hand, Reinaldo Cozzani, after having a successful career in the world motorcycling championship, and discovered Juan Cruz in 2001, begins a new chapter in his professional motorsport profile within the World Series by Nissan.
Javier Campillo (Gabord Competición)
"We feel very proud to work with such a young and talented driver, as well as to join forces with the winning team of the World Series Light. All the team will be focused in carrying this young star into F-1".
Reinaldo Cozzani (Reyco Motorsport)
"I started this project in 2001, and followed all the World Series by Nissan Season in 2002. Initially, we had a two-year plan for Juan, but with the Championship in his pocket we have to look to a new plan. Jaime Alguersuari, the organiser, did a lot of good things for the motorcycling competition world, and he is becoming someone very important in the single-seater competitions. I'm very proud to be with him in this project, as this is the best single-seater competition after F-1."
