I.S.R. Racing endured an eventful and quite unlucky Saturday in Spielberg, where F.Renault is holding the sixth round of the championship.
After a tight packed qualifying session that saw Sergey Sirotkin and Christopher Zanella close in P11 and P16 respectively, luck didn't help the Czech team in the first race of the weekend.Zanella's effort was compromised when he stalled at the start, then rejoining one lap down, while Sirotkin's recovery to P7 was wasted when a rival punted him from behind, sending him into a spin and causing his retirement. The team's focus has now switched on tomorrow, with the second Qualifying session scheduled for 9 AM and the start of Race 2 set for 2.30 PM.
Sergey Sirotkin (Q1- P11; R1 - DNF): "Qualifying wasn't too good, but early into the race I had already made good progress, climbing to P7 and getting ready to fight for the top 5. When I checked my mirrors for the last time Nato was far behind, but at Turn 3 I missed the apex a bit and despite being that far he tried to dive on the inside. It was an optimistic move and he crashed in the rear of my car, that was it. It's a pity because the pace was really good today".
Christopher Zanella (Q1 - P16; R1 - P16): "I just stalled at the start and it was a pity because when I rejoined, even if I was a lap down, I had the pace to keep up with the top 10 runners. I can't be happy right now, but today's pace bodes well for tomorrow".
