Ultimate Signature completes list of pre-selected teams
Last Friday, the World Series by Renault Organizing Committee officially pre-selected a thirteenth team to take part in the World Series Formula Renault 3.5 2008 Championship. The extra team is Ultimate Signature, the fruit of an alliance between two teams competing in F3, Ultimate and Signature.
Interview with Philippe Sinault, Team Manager, Signature
Why the name "Ultimate Signature"?
"Well, we were the last team to enter the championship...! More seriously, though, it's a partnership between Ultimate, a team founded by Barry Walsh at the beginning of this year to compete in the British F3 Championship, and Signature, my team, which competes in F3 Euro Series. The alliance we have forged will allow us to pool our human, material and financial resources and thus make us better equipped to meet this new challenge. Physically speaking, the team will be based in the UK. I think that's a real plus for Signature, as it gives us a foothold in the home of motor sport."
What made you apply?
"We felt that, in sporting, technical and marketing terms, the World Series by Renault was the best platform to help us to take our teams to another level. The fact that our joining the championship coincides with the beginning of a cycle -- and the introduction of a new car -- means that we will be able to see how we measure up against the other teams on equal terms. The marketing side of things is very important, as both our teams put a strong emphasis on that aspect. The meetings themselves are a great opportunity to invite guests to enjoy the racing action from an insider's perspective. I think that the World Series by Renault concept offers a new way of developing partnerships."
It is probably a little early to be talking about this, but will your drivers for 2008 be drawn from your existing pool of drivers?
"We will, of course, be speaking to the drivers we want to carry on working with first. But we are not ruling anything out at this stage!"
