Spielberg, September 19th The Superfund World Series by Nissan visits A1 Ring (Austria) for the first time. Most of the drivers had the opportunity to explore the Austrian circuit last Friday, during a day of private test. It is time of great expectations here as the Austrian crowd will see running for the first time the Dallara Nissan cars, cheering the local driver Norbert Siedler (Superfund Zele-Racing), as well as the son of former F1 World Champ Niki Lauda, Mathias (21), in the World Series Light.
The weather broadcast for all three days in Austria couldn't be better: sunny and warm. This makes the traditional track surrounded by hills even more beautiful and special. The day began with 14 C in the air and reached it's highest in 27 (3h30 pm) and track temperatures went from 12 C to 39 C.
Carlin Motorsport French driver Bruce Jouanny , 1.21.635 (190.5 km/h) has demolished the F3000 pole achieved by Ricardo Sperafico (1.22.030). Narain Kartikheyan (1.21.809) has been second overall with the Racing Engineering driver Stephane Sarrazin (1.22.060 in third position. Carlin was also the fastest team last Friday during the private test proving that the English-based squad is ready for the attack. Good performance in Epsilon Euskadi, with their drivers Jean Christophe Ravier and Ander Vilariño in top 5.
As for the newcomers, Liuzzi (RC Motorsport) has been the 10th top driver here in Austria. Jose Maria Perez Aicart (Adrian Campos Motorsport) has been trying to get familiar with this car. It is the first time that the Spanish driver steps in a 3000 c.c. single-seater.
The Dallara AER cars participated in three free practice sessions in the A1-RING. Julien Vidot (Epsilon by Graff), top 4 in the Series overall standings, was the quickest driver with 1.26.314, followed by Indonesian ace Ananda Mikola (RC Motorsport) and the local Mathias Lauda (Vergani Racing). "I putted a new set of tyres but incredibly it was slower in the first two sectors", complained the local driver. As for the leader, Valles, the team spend the day trying to discover this tricky circuit. Obviously, the drivers who were not visiting Asutria last week did not perform as usual today.
Bruce Jouanny (Carlin Motorsport)
" Last week it went quite well here so we decided to use the same set-up. We put new braking discs too at the end. My driving could improve but tomorrow is the important day for us. We are hunger of points here and he hope to keep this path for tomorrow's qualyfing sessions".
Julien Vidot (Epsilon by Graff)
" We were in Austria last week and we were doing pretty well as we finished in top position. The time was a bit faster then but the team is progressing well and maybe tomorrow we can win another position in the Series standings as we are in top 4 now and we have a race tomorrow (16h50 pm)."
