Disappointment at Brno for Supersport Team

Things did not go according to plan today for the Yamaha World Supersport Team as Parkes crashed on the last lap whilst challenging for second place. He re-mounted to finish 13th and gain three valuable points to his championship standing.

Parkes began the 50th race of his Supersport career on a positive note having qualified second but, after a disappointing start, he was in fifth place. He focused on moving up through the pack and was in a three-way fight for second place with Harms and Jones by lap five. The battle continued throughout the race until Harms and Parkes came together on the last lap, taking both riders out. Parkes re-mounted to grab 13th and salvage some points.

Parkes' team mate this weekend was Jason O'Halloran, the 19 year-old Australian Supersport rider. Jason's last outing with the team was two weeks ago at the Vallelunga test and he is the latest rider to sit in the hot seat, replacing the injured Kevin Curtain. O'Halloran had a good start, charging through from 22nd to 16th on the first lap and then managed to pick off another few places to finish in 12th, just ahead of Parkes.

Yamaha Team Italia rider Massimo Roccoli had a good result today, finishing fourth and claiming 13 points. Following a bad start in which the Italian slipped to eighth, Roccoli dug deep and made his way up to fifth place before finally finishing 0.04 seconds off the podium.

Jason O'Halloran (12th - Yamaha World Supersport Team) "I got away well on the first couple of laps and was having a good battle with another rider when I ran wide. That knocked my rhythm for the rest of the race; I just couldn't get it back. I was still struggling with the front settings and that didn't help me at all. I'd like to have finished higher up the board but I also felt it was better to finish and get some points than push it too far when I didn't feel confident enough."

Broc Parkes (13th - Yamaha World Supersport Team) "My start wasn't good again; I need to look at what's going wrong there. The five Honda guys were setting a fast pace and at times I had to ride beyond my comfortable limit to keep up with them. I could see Sofuoglu and I wanted to catch him but the tyres had gone with two laps to go. By that point I was in a battle with Harms; I made a small mistake and he came past. I then drafted him up the hill and got back past him on the braking point but then he went past me around the outside and came into the side of me. I had nowhere to go! I'm not hurt but I'm just so frustrated it happened."

Massimo Roccoli (6th - Yamaha Team Italia) "I made a mistake at the start but after a few laps I was able to increase my pace. My goal was to get a podium finish but Foret was faster than me out of the final corner and I wasn't able to answer him on the straight. I'm happy with my finish position though."
