Charpentier back on top at Brands Hatch
Defending World Supersport Champion Sebastien Charpentier firmly re-established himself as a frontrunner at Brands Hatch today for round ten of the series. The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider secured pole position for tomorrow's 23-lap race - his second top qualifying position of the season at a British circuit.
Team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu will start his battle to secure the championship victory from second position - 10 places ahead of closest rival Fabien Foret. Despite setting the fastest lap five times during today's second qualifying session, championship leader Sofuoglu was unable to secure pole.
Today's bright sunshine and high track temperatures resulted in the grid positions being determined by the first qualifying session as none of the riders were able to improve upon yesterday's lap times. With record crowds and bright sunshine forecast for tomorrow, both HANNspree Ten Kate Honda riders are confident of securing podium finishes.
Ronald ten Kate, Team Manager:
"The result today is perfect - we can't ask for anything better than that. Both boys are on the front row for what could be a very crucial race. We have been concentrating on race set-up and longer distances and both are proving to be consistent so we are looking forward to a good day tomorrow. That's about all I can say!"
"I am quite happy today. I focused on race distance this morning and I did my fastest lap time on lap 20 so I know I can be consistent in the race. I am really happy for Sebastien and I hope that tomorrow we can stay in the top two and get a double for the team. We have been close to this at other stages during the year but it has never happened, so it would be great to see it tomorrow."
"I am really happy - my technical staff have worked so hard to try new ideas for me and the set-up of the bike. I tried my best today, but the track is very hot so it was not easy to improve on lap times. I hope Kenan and I can be on the podium together tomorrow as a thank you to the team for all the hard work."
