AN ENGINE FAILURE MAKES BARRIER CRASH
Sometimes things are not going as well as expected. It was the case today for Sylvain Barrier when his engine failed, locking his rear wheel when he was approaching a curve. There was nothing he could do and he ended up in a very spectacular crash which destroyed the bike. The good news is the Sylvain was not hurt and he remains, like everybody in the team, in good spirits.
This Silverstone weekend started well, with Barrier being on the first row after good qualifications. The warm up went also well with the second time. Sylvain started the race perfectly and he was in second position at the end of the first lap. Then he was consistent fourth when the disaster struck.
Sylvain is OK, and this is more important than everything. The team stays in good spirits and is looking forward to the next race at the Nurburgring.
The Garnier Racing Team Junior congratulates Ayrton Badovini and the BMW Italia Team for their victory in the 2010 FIM Cup Superstock 1000.
Michel Garnier (team owner): "I am disappointed. It was possible for us to have a good result, after being fourth in qualifying and second in the warm up. What is important, it's that Sylvain is not injured, this comes first. This engine failure was a surprise as we were quite far of its limit in term of maximum mileage. This incident is not the responsibility of our team and I would like to thank BMW for the support they immediately gave us."
Sylvain Barrier: "I am of course disappointed. We were looking for a good result, but this kind of thing happens sometimes when you are racing. My crash was very impressive and I am happy to escape without damage."
