While Rea eased past poleman Sykes off the line, Kawasaki's main rival Chaz Davies was forced to run wide and drop outside the top 10 after Xavi Fores and Lorenzo Savadori made contact, resulting in the latter's retirement.

Davide Giugliano spent the early stages of the race in third, putting pressure on Sykes, only to drop to the back of the grid after a fall. The Italian could only recover to 14th.

Nicky Hayden took over third only for a handful of corners as he slid into the gravel and became the second retirement of the race.

At the front, Rea failed to shake off Sykes, the latter shadowing the leader throughout the whole race before starting to put pressure during the closing stages.

However, Sykes failed to make a move on the championship leader and crossed the line right behind him, just 0.090s adrift.

Michael van der Mark inherited third after his Honda teammate's crash and secured his first podium since April, with Davies impressively recovering to salvage fourth.

Althea BMW teammates Jordi Torres and Markus Reiterberger finished fifth and sixth respectively followed by Sylvain Guintoli's replacement Niccolo Canepa.

The Italian became the top Yamaha rider when Alex Lowes had trouble while running fourth and dropped outside of the top 10.

MV Agusta's Leon Camier and the Kawasakis of Roman Ramos and Anthony West completed the top 10.

Front row starter Fores recovered from a sluggish getaway to run sixth only to retire with a mechanical issues with three laps to go.
